Container should be "mostly clean." Quickly rinse or wipe out food into compost before putting in the recycling bin. If container says "compostable" on it, compost it.
Alternatives
Opt for a reusable container instead. In general, try to take less food to go by eating at the establishment or preparing more meals at home.
