Foil should be "mostly clean." Quickly rinse or wipe out food then make the foil into a compact ball up to softball size.
Alternatives
Opt for a reusable container or jar or reusable beeswax wrap. If you do use foil, try to reuse it before disposal.
Facts
It's easier to sort and recycle a big piece of aluminum foil than lots of little ones.
