Cardboard
Instructions
Break down (flatten) your boxes to maximize space in your blue recycling cart. If you have many flattened boxes(3'x2'x1′), you should bundle them and bind the bundle with a string. This bundle can be placed next to, or on top of the blue, paper recycling cart. Waxed cardboard is not allowed in the blue cart, and should be placed loosely in the green waste, compost cart.
Alternatives
Lots of packaging waste is due to online shopping so try to buy local instead. When you do buy online, group your purchases, don't opt for extra-fast shipping, and request less and recyclable packaging. After you receive your purchase, try to reuse the packaging before recycling it.
Facts
Recycling 1 ton of cardboard can save 390 kWh of energy, 46 gallons of oil, 700 gallons of water, over 9 cubic yards of landfill space.
